It’s a really good time to play the points game. Credit card companies don’t like taking perks away, so with fewer people traveling, they’ve been busy adding perks you can use from home, and even better, to cure a sweet tooth. The Amex Gold Card is one of the finest examples of a card which already offered mega value, adding even more value, with $120 in new fee credits on top of the already generous offerings.

With a $250 annual fee, and a 60,000 American Express Membership Rewards Points welcome bonus worth quite a lot, this might be the time to add this incredibly lucrative card to your wallet. Particularly if you like…. food, glorious food.

Amex Gold Adds Uber Credit

If you eat, or use ride share services, Amex Gold just added a useful new fee credit for you. And yes, it was already useful for earning a gold standard 4X points per dollar on dining, including takeout and delivery, 4X at U.S. Supermarkets and 3X on airfare. $100 dinner earning 400 points is never sad.

On top of the $120 annual dining credit toward Grubhub, Seamless, The Cheesecake Factory, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, Boxed, and Shake Shack, and the $100 airline fee credit, Amex Gold is now adding a $120 annual Uber/UberEats credit. That means $10 per month in Uber rides or UberEats credit. For 2021, it means huge first year savings.

Let’s break it down.

Amex is dropping the $100 airline credit after 2021, but if you pick up card THIS year, you get all the credits for 2021, before the $100 airline credit goes away. That means in 2021, your new $250 annual fee rewards card with major points earning potential will bring you…

  • 60,000 Points after $4,000 in spending, worth at least $1000 spent right.
  • $10 monthly credit ($120 annual) to Grubhub, Seamless, and more.
  • $10 monthly credit ($120 annual) for Uber or UberEats
  • $100 airline credit (2021 only) towards seats, bags, upgrades, etc.

Yep, that’s $340 in credits if you use each, with just a $250 annual fee, not even mentioning the super lucrative 60,000 American Express Membership Rewards Points, which is about as high as this card’s bonus ever tops out. It’s the largest public offers we’ve ever seen.

Even taking away the $100 annual airline credit for 2022 in your second cardmember year, you’re still instantly looking at $240 in fee credits against a $250 annual fee, and Amex Gold card members get $100 food and beverage credit on every 2+ night hotel stay booked through Amex Travel, which can be the gift that keeps on giving – and saving.

ANA’s new business class.

60,000 Amex Points Is Massive

60,000 American Express Membership Rewards Points can be transferred to a variety of amazing airline and hotel partners, and you should look to extract at least 1.8 cents of value per point from these points, making them worth circa $1000 spent well.

Think: earn 90,000 and transfer to Virgin Atlantic for a pricey ANA business class to Tokyo, in arguably the world’s best business class.

There are so many ways to spend Amex Points, from using them to cover travel booked at Amex Travel to great transfer partners like: AsiaMiles, Singapore KrisFlyer, Emirates, ANA, Avianca, Air France, Delta and Virgin Atlantic. A Fantastic Offer That Just Got Better

60,000 American Express Membership Rewards Points alone are enough of a reason for someone to jump on a great offer, but coming out so far ahead via the $340 in first year fee credits against an annual fee of just $250 makes so much sense.

The card (review) can easily justify itself in future years with the continued Uber and dining credits, and earning at top 4X rates on dining out, delivery and take-out couldn’t be more timely during the pandemic. This is a pretty ideal time to give this card serious consideration.
