With credit cards, there are the benefits you expect when you sign up for the card, and then there are others which come as more ‘surprise and delight’ style benefits. Chase Sapphire Reserve has never promised to offer 4th night free on hotels, but when you login to your account, more and more often, there’s something along those lines afoot.

Right now there’s an excellent offer for 4th night free at SBE Hotels, which brings quite a few cities into play. And even if you don’t want to stay at one of these properties, Chase Luxury Hotels is a program worth knowing!

Chase Sapphire ReserveChase Luxury Hotels x SBE Hotels

Chase Luxury Hotels is a portal for credit card members, which gains access to exclusive rates, benefits and sometimes even free nights. You can access Chase Luxury Hotels here. The hotels tend to be luxury focused, and typically offer between 5-10 choices in any city.

There’s also a partnership with SBE, a leading hospitality brand.

SBE may not be as recognizable a name as their hotel brands, which include SLS, Mondrian, Redbury, Hudson, Hyde and the Delano. The group offers properties in Doha, Istanbul, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Miami, the Bahamas, London and beyond, most of which are in the 4* or 5* category.

At the moment, there’s no stated expiration date of the partnership, but the partnership details are absolutely worth knowing. Every reservation booked through the dedicated portal receives 4th night free, $30 food and beverage credit, breakfast for two, and subject to availability – a room upgrade with late checkout.

There’s no limit to how many times you can use the 4th night free if you’ll be making multiple stays in these various properties. In other words, you could get quite a lot of value out of this, throughout the year. Hot tip: avoid the Hudson.

It’s always worth comparison shopping, even when a great offer like this exists. The 4th night free applies to flexible rates, so it’s possible (particularly with Black Friday coming up), that you might find a better overall rate through a nonrefundable reservation. Of course, that means you’re stuck if plans change, and there will likely be many cases where this is still cheaper.

A few of the hotels noted are a part of Marriott’s Luxury Collection properties, so it’s possible that points could be awarded on these stays, since you’re basically booking direct, although it would be impossible to guarantee or bank on it. With free breakfast and a $30 food and beverage credit, you pretty much get the benefits anyway.

It’s nice to see Chase turning up the heat on exclusive hotel offers, particularly as Citi devalued the 4th night free benefit on the Prestige card. Amex is also making large strides in this area, making their Fine Hotels & Resorts easier to book, and with greater benefits, including their own array of 3rd or 4th night free promos. Of course, 10x with Capital One Venture isn’t too sad either. It’s a good time to need a hotel reservation…
