The single greatest thing about playing the points and miles game is that the journey begins long before check in. There’s an obsession, a passion, an endless array of options, destinations and perhaps most fun of all, a fascinating puzzle to weave it all together. Sure, the suites in the air and on the ground are plenty of fun, but what I love most about the whole game starts well before you get there…

The thing that keeps me coming back, figuring out the next great trick and constantly in a state of creative perplexity is finding a way to make something work. It’s the wildly creative ways you occasionally must seek, such as using hotel points to create airline miles that you’ll use for flights on a totally different airline, searching a nearby city, booking some nights in a hotel with cash and others with points. “How can I get the most for as little points and cash as possible?”. That’s the question and virtually every time there will be a new varying answer.

We recently booked a trip to Singapore, with a deal starting in Stockholm. Living in New York, I need to find a way to position myself to Stockholm on a very specific day, preferably using miles and of course, preferably flying flat. At present there is no perfect answer, but in the coming weeks I will set alerts to see if seats open up, I’ll look into flights to nearby cities like Oslo or Copenhagen and I’ll find a way to connect the dots. There’s always a way, some answers just require more creativity and effort than others.

If all of this sounds crazy to you, you’re not alone. Many people find the collecting side of points very easy, either through credit card spending or extensive travel and the making it work side far too painful to bother with. We offer a service where we take care of all that for people, there are a few other great sites like LiveAndLetsFly who offer similar great services too. However, providing the answers to people’s points, deal and other travel questions for free, every day is endlessly fun and if this all doesn’t sound crazy to you, it’s so fun to share this passion together. God save the points.
