Good news travels fast and thank goodness, because in travel these days it doesn’t arrive very often. After disappointing news for economy passengers looking for the best fares, countless devaluations and too many years without flying cars, we may have some breakthroughs on each front. American Announces Upgrades With Premium Economy, Will Still Be Able To Upgrade Economy to Business…

American Airlines is rolling out a proper Premium Economy cabin. A big fear for all with upgrade certificates or miles in hoping to upgrade to business class was that Premium Economy would become the barrier, since upgrades can generally only move up one cabin. American have confirmed that even with the launch of Premium Economy those hoping to use system wide upgrades (SWU’s) or miles will still be able to upgrade directly to business, bypassing Premium. In addition, high tier elite members, presumably Executive Platinum and perhaps Platinum Pro members will receive complimentary upgrades to Premium Economy at check in! That’s all very positive news (for a change)…

Bonus: Apparently seats are wide open using American miles for flights from US to Australia or Japan. Act fast.

40% Off Alaska Miles, Good For Travel On Cathay, JAL, Qantas And More…

Update: This could be targeted, as some customers are reporting not finding bonuses offered, give it a go.

Alaska is having a sale on their valuable miles. These sales are fairly common, so there’s no rush to jump in, but if you could use a top off for an amazing flight on a top carrier, preferably in a top cabin, they offer excellent value. Standout highlights include 70k one way between the US and Asia in First Class, 85k for round trip business between Europe and Asia and many other excellent values. The sale is valid until February 8th and you can buy your points right here.

Airbus Promising Flying Car Prototype By Years End?!

Though I think most people already struggle with cars lacking a Y axis, Airbus thinks its high time that we all started buzzing around in the air to get wherever we need. Flying cars have long been the dream of futurists and directors of Back To The Future and now Airbus is planning to take the first steps toward turning those dreams into reality. Their CEO has said they have the technology to make it happen and will have a prototype working by years end. Apparently the early stages don’t look so much like a car and don’t have collision avoidance systems figured out yet, so it may be a while before they’re ready for action. Can you imagine flying over traffic?
