I often tell people that the best unkept secret with Avios is, in fact, the Avios app. Separate to the British Airways app, the Avios app allows users to set flight alerts and goals, but also gives a heads up about opportunities before they appear anywhere else.

Case in point: before a press release had even hit my inbox, the Avios app alerted me that an ‘Avios only’ flight had just launched. This isn’t the first time Avios has launched a flight only bookable with points, but it is the first time they’ve done one to CAPE TOWN, during peak winter break time.

Avios Only Winter Sun To Cape Town

British Airways and Avios have collaborated on a flight only bookable with Avios, where every seat on the plane is available for sale with points. First, business, premium and economy, all available using Avios. The flights depart as follows…

  • 20th December 2025: BA43 London Heathrow – Cape Town Boeing 777
  • 02nd January 2026: BA42 Cape Town – London Heathrow Boeing 777

As noted, these flights are now bookable and if history repeats itself, they won’t be available for long. This plane only has 8 seats in first, so get in quick! One amazing thing about Avios is that they aren’t just the currency of one airline, but a whopping seven. If you have any points with Finnair, Iberia, Qatar, Aer Lingus, Logainair, Vueling or British Airways you can pool points together to book these flights.

Avios is also a transfer partner of Amex, Bilt, Capital One, Chase and plenty of other global financial institutions, so there should be ample opportunity to convert bank points into Avios and get these booked. Hot tip though, ensure there are seats available before you make your transfer, since this will be a hot commodity.

A Great Way To Prove A Point

I love any airline rewarding members with flights entirely bookable with points. What makes this one different is that it’s not some off peak, off season destination. It’s Cape Town, easily one of the toughest tickets with any currency, during peak time, perfect for people looking to ditch the weather for the holidays and catch NYE in one of the best cities on earth.

Yes, Cape Town is by far one of my favorites and for any oenophiles, a trip to nearby Stellenbosch or Franschoek is a must. Standard luggage limits apply, so definitely bring enough suitcases to haul back wine. Fin. Head to British Airways website to book.
