People aren’t traveling as much right now, and blah, blah, blah. You’ve heard it, you know it, but not as much doesn’t mean not at all. And if you do decide to go, wouldn’t it be nice to save not only on flights, but hotels too? Right now, Amex Platinum has you covered, with new limited time savings, on top of the card’s already world class travel benefits.

Amex Platinum Travel Offers

There’s already at least 18 luxury travel reasons why the Amex Platinum card can more than justify itself each and every year, but this isn’t an ordinary year. Amex pivoted to a variety of benefits cardmembers could use in everyday life, like discounts on wellness products and streaming services to keep your Netflix binges going strong.

But ultimately, Amex Platinum shines with travel, and American Express is slowly turning the spotlight back onto just how powerful the card can be in your wallet as a travel companion. It’s starting with discounts circa 20% on airfare, and $150 statement credits on select hotel stays, and ends with some fabulous perks.

Here’s a breakdown of all the limited time travel offers available to all US Platinum and Platinum Business cardholders right now…

US Domestic Airfare Discounts

People aren’t traveling as far or wide right now, but the US is massive and there’s so much worth seeing. American Express has negotiated with partners including Delta and American Airlines to offer discounts of circa 20% on select airfare.

Yep, American Airlines and Amex partnered here, which is fascinating given American Airlines relationships with other financial partners. Our research also shows American seems to have given Amex the deepest discounts of all the US airlines, too, even more than Delta!

The discount is exclusive to Amex Platinum, and Business Platinum cardholders and works for both economy and business/first class for tickets booked by December 31st, 2020, for travel up to March 31st, 2021.

So are the savings real? It seems so. A variety of searches yielded 20% savings or better on business class, and circa 5-15% savings on economy. Tickets which don’t fall in the the rock bottom fares category have the greatest savings, but even discounted tickets should bring savings. And hey, savings is savings. Full details here.

Oh, and of course, airfare booked at Amex Travel earns 5X, just like it does directly with airlines, so you’ll be earning the best points rate in the biz on these flight purchases.

$150 Statement Credit On Hotels

American Express Fine Hotels & Resorts (FHR) is an incredibly valuable program which can help justify the $550 annual fee on the Platinum Card in just one stay. Now, with a $150 statement credit when you spend $800 on a stay, even more so!

All Amex FHR bookings entitle you to guaranteed 4PM checkout, daily breakfast for two and money to spend on the property with at least $100 credit towards spa treatments or dining, which can be worth more than $500 in a singular two night stay. It makes a $550 annual fee card feel a lot better in your wallet.

For bookings through December 7th, 2020, all US Platinum cardmembers can benefit from a one time, $150 statement credit when they book a hotel stay of $800 or more in one transaction. So basically, if you find a $801 hotel stay, you’ll end up getting $150 off, and still enjoy your on property FHR benefits which can be worth $100’s! You can read up on full details here, and there’s even more.

Hot tip: Amex Platinum doesn’t typically reward 5X Points on hotel stays, but prepaid stays booked through Amex Travel do! This means you’d earn 5,000 points on a $1000 stay, which is a fantastic rebate on top of these rebates.

Free Nights And Extra Property Perks

As if a $150 credit on an $800 stay isn’t enticing enough, there’s actually even better news. Amex partnered with a variety of hotels to create extra value for guests, in hope of luring you out of the house. It just might work.

Amex has a huge range of properties in the USA where you can enjoy $300 in food and beverage credits instead of the typical $100, and even more where you can enjoy third night free. And yes, you can combine these extra perks with the $150 statement credit, so long as you still spend $800 on the stay.

It could mean an extra free night, or an extra few courses at dinner! Bottom line is there’s stackable savings on fantastic hotels all throughout the country, so long as you book by mid December. For the free night offers, you’ll also need to stay before the end of the year. All the current limited time Fine Hotels & Resorts property offers are here.

Time To Get Amex Platinum?

If you’re an outsider looking in, it’s not a bad time to consider adding the Platinum Card to your points maximization and travel savings arsenal. With $200 savings on Uber in a year, plus VIP status, $200 in airline credit and elite status with a variety of programs in addition to these new limited time offers, you could come out way ahead.
