It’s that time again! Singapore Airlines has released this month’s Spontaneous Escapes deals. Each month, Singapore KrisFlyer runs this promotion which allows you to book a bunch of routes for about 30% fewer miles than the usual saver level award rate. You can find economy, premium economy and business class options from multiple regions of the world.
How to Earn Singapore KrisFlyer Miles
Most of you are probably set when it comes to earning Singapore KrisFlyer miles. But, just in case you’re a bit newer to this and want to prep for the next Spontaneous Escapes, you have several options to get your hands on the necessary miles.
The points you earn with American Express Membership Rewards cards (Learn More), Chase Ultimate Rewards cards (Learn More) and Citi ThankYou Points cards (Learn More) transfer to Singapore KrisFlyer at a 1:1 ratio.
You can also earn Capital One miles (Learn More) that transfer at a 2:1 ratio and Marriott Bonvoy points (Learn More) that transfer at a 3:1 ratio — with a 5,000-mile bonus when you transfer 60,000 points.
Spontaneous Escapes Details
To take advantage of this month’s Spontaneous Escapes, you need to book by May 31, 2019 and travel between June 1 and June 30, 2019. Now, you know why they call these deals spontaneous. You can waitlist an award, however — and this is important — the ticket must be issued by May 31 or you won’t get the promo mileage rate.
As you might expect, these deals are on a first come, first serve basis so don’t expect them to last until May 31. Also, make sure you check the Spontaneous Escapes page for eligible flights as not all flights on a given route are eligible for the promo rate.
Our Favorite Deals This Month
While all these deals have a set 30% discount this month, there are a few that are of particular interest to us. Specifically, we wanted to flag a few great business class options to/from the US, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Not only are these great award rates but you won’t have to pay any surcharges on these tickets either, just the standard taxes/fees.
Make sure you check the promo page details as some routes are restricted to specific flights.
Hong Kong To San Francisco
Let’s start with Hong Kong (HKG) to San Francisco (SFO). This is one of the best deals this month and it’s definitely the longest business class flight of the options. With the promo, you can book a one-way flight to Hong Kong for 62,300 KrisFlyer miles instead of the usual 89,000 miles. While some deals allow you to book any Singapore Airlines flight between two cities, the only eligible flight on this route is SQ2 which is a fifth-freedom flight from Hong Kong to San Francisco.
Singapore To Australia, New Zealand Or South Africa
Once in Asia, you can use Singapore as a jumping off point to visit Australia, New Zealand or South Africa with a business class deal. During this month’s Spontaneous Escapes promo, you can book a one-way business class flight to Auckland (AKL), Brisbane (BNE), Christchurch (CHC) or Melbourne (MEL) for only 43,400 KrisFlyer miles. That’s a 30% discount off the usual 62,000 miles it would require.
If you’d like to jet off to South Africa after a visit to Asia, you can book a one-way business class award ticket from Singapore (SIN) to Johannesburg (JNB) — SQ481/482 — for 34,300 KrisFlyer miles. Again, that’s a 30% discount off the usual mileage rate.
In the case of Melbourne, this deal only works on these flight numbers departing Singapore: SQ217, SQ227, SQ237, SQ257, SQ267.
Extend A Trip In Asia
If you already have flights booked to Asia or are piecing together an extended trip through the region, there are lots of intra-Asia promo flights. The one that stands out to us is between Singapore and Seoul. The flight time on this one is listed at about 6.5 hours and you can book business class for 32,900 KrisFlyer miles one-way. Two of the eligible flights are even on a Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner.
This flight would usually require 47,000 KrisFlyer miles and, when you think about it, it’s not much shorter than a New York-London flight. At 32,900 KrisFlyer miles, it really is a steal to fly one of the world’s best airlines in business class. If you’d prefer an economy flight, you can use 17,500 miles to fly to South Korea and Japan rather than the usual 25,000 miles.
How To Search And Book
Singapore Airlines recently added a flexible search option which we think will make your search easier. When you do so, you’ll get a snapshot — Saver, Waitlist and Advantage — of what is available across seven days. Pick a Saver date and you should be able to find a flight eligible for the promo. Just make sure you select Redeem Flights before you run your search so you don’t accidentally look for cash fares.
