There’s First class- and then there’s the refinement of Lufthansa First Class. Starting things off with a personal assistant at the airport, gorgeous champagne and one of the comfiest seats in the sky, the experience hits new heights with every moment. And thanks to a handy use of points, you can experience quite a few moments. Better yet- there are quite a few ways to do it.

Act Fast

Singapore Airlines offers a fantastic sweet spot for using points. You can use Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer points to fly Lufthansa First Class, for more than 14 hours for just 75,000 points – but this amazing use of points is only available until December 7th. You must book, but not fly, by then.

The first thing to know: there are lots of ways to do this. Amex, Citi, Chase, SPG or Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer points can all be used here. Any of those great points programs can instantly transfer their points to Singapore Airlines, who will charge just 75,000 miles for these first class flights.

Matthew Klint highlighted an interesting quirk with the soon to expire Singapore Airlines chart for using points on Star Alliance airline partners. Naturally, any flight will route via Europe, giving you two flights for less than the price of one.

Flying from the U.S. to Germany, you’ll get a minimum of seven hours en route, and much longer going the other direction. Carrying on from Germany to somewhere like Dubai will give you at least another seven hours, making this a fantastic value. West coast flights would make this even closer to 20 hours all in…

Booking is very easy, but with one challenge. Lufthansa typically only releases award space in First Class within a couple weeks of departure. Therefore you’ll need to fly in the near term to enjoy the 75,000 mile rate. Fortunately, the new price will be 90,000 miles, making this a solid value, even after the impending devaluation. You can now book Star Alliance awards directly on Singapore Airlines website. Surcharges will vary from $190-$400. If you find difficulty using the Singapore Airlines site, check on United.com for “Saver” level First Class seats and then call Singapore to book.
