When you’re on a winning streak you just hope that it never ends. We’ve now had consecutive weeks of excellent news in the travel, loyalty and points world and the streak is in tact. Here’s the most important (good) news of the day. Let’s hope it continues….

Virgin America Improves Loyalty Program…

Virgin America aren’t going away quietly. They’re currently status matching all US Airlines and just this week have included JetBlue in their crosshairs, offering their fliers an instant parachute to elite status. You can match HERE. On top of that, they want to make the process for earning status easier, offering a choice between collecting points or just taking enough flights, which can be friendlier in terms of the cost to achieve status.

Lowest Airfare Prices Since 2010, Maybe Longer….

Good news, yet another study proves that we’re seeing the lowest prices since 2010 and perhaps even since 1989. In general this is great news, bringing more travel to more people. The negative connotations are that lower prices are partially from an unbundling of things that used to be included like seat assignments, checked bags and so forth. Basically, it’s cheaper, but if you need a seat assignment or a bag, it may not be THAT much cheaper. I’ll take it…

Qatar Flies A380 To Atlanta To Piss Off Delta…

Qatar Airways are launching a new route from Qatar to Atlanta. Though the route is highly unlikely to be serviced by an A380 on a continuing basis, just to piss off Delta and simultaneously create some pomp and circumstance, they are flying their A380 on the inaugural flight on June 1st 2016. As of yesterday you could even book it using miles. Why piss off Delta you ask? Atlanta is where Delta calls home, and Delta’s CEO made a big fuss about how competing against Qatar, Etihad and Emirates wasn’t fair because they receive subsidies and aren’t profitable. Half of that is true, but it’s true for all airlines. Silly.

American + British Airways Now Honor Qatar R Fares…

Woohoo! American just confirmed that they will match British Airways and honor Qatar “R” discount business class fares for all travel from May 1st on. This is great news since Qatar offers extremely cheap business fares to great destinations, but has a terrible loyalty program. When you fly one of these deals you’ll want to credit the points to American or British Airways. Thankfully, you can do that now…
