New planes mean longer routes, and longer routes mean people desperate for a good nights sleep. Aside from the vintage champagne, it’s the reason people shell out for international first class isn’t it? There’s a new seat concept out, designed entirely around state of the art sleep, it’s endorsed by a worldwide soccer (sorry, football) star and it may be just the thing first class passengers are looking for…

Gareth Bale, worldwide soccer icon and kingpin of the legendary Real Madrid team is obsessed with competitive edge and the edge he’s found can’t be bought, it’s sleep. The superstar player became obsessed with sleep, and in great news for soccer fans, who happen to be plane geeks, he specifically became obsessed with airplane sleep. So much so, he became an investor and spokesman for “Simba Air Hybrid” a new tech based concept airline seat.

The seat uses active technology to ensure that none of the usual elements of flight stand in the way of a great nights sleep. Equipped with smart sensors, the seat, which obviously turns into a large bed, monitors humidity, light, air particles and noise, complete with counter measures to combat these ever changing elements. Basically, it’s like a pair of noise cancelling headphones, complete with a six axis gyroscope to keep your body at zero G’s of force; with orange light therapy, scientifically proven to induce sleep, and a temperature system to keep your body at ideal sleep temp. It’ll even filter out random smells, somehow?

According to the brand, response has been wildly positive and has lead to discussions with many commercial airlines. No word on who is considering the sleep machine of the future, but at the right place, it could be a compelling argument for an airlines most discerning customers. If everyone’s got incredible vintage champagne, it’s the bed that wins. Now to get one for my house, and have the windows retrofitted to the shape of airplane windows…
