South Africa is as good as it gets. Consider it a one stop shop for all your bucket list needs where you can go on safari, hit gorgeous beaches, swim with sharks, visit vineyards and experience incredible culture with an even better exchange rate. With fares about half the usual offering price, this is something to jump on…

The Deal

Virgin Atlantic are offering exceptionally good fares to South Africa from just about all their major US cities. You can depart New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami, Boston or Washington DC, stopping through London for up to 24 hours at no additional cost.  Better yet, you can secure routings which keep you on Virgin’s brand new 787 Dreamliner to enhance your experience.

The Dates

You can book this excellent fare from November to early December and then from January of 2017 into May of 2017. Remember, Johannesburg is in the Southern Hemisphere so when it’s winter in the Northern Hemisphere, it’s summer in the Southern. Johannesburg and Cape Town are in prime season from November to March!

This couldn’t be easier to book! You can go directly to VirginAtlantic.com, your starting city and then your destination city, Johannesburg (JNB). One big positive is that Virgin Atlantic have made virtually all fares upgradeable, so if you’re sitting on a large stack of miles, you’ll likely be able to upgrade at least part of your journey. To book flights with availability to do so immediately, click “spend your miles” on Virgin’s website and book flights where there’s availability in the cabin you’d like, which is color coded. If the color is there, it’s available.

Expert Tips

Earn miles, duh. But also, go to Cape Town, it’s worth it. We have a guide with five perfect days in Cape Town mapped out giving a great sense of all that you can do and where to stay. If you have more time, go on Safari. It’s epic. As to the flying stuff, credit your miles to Virgin Atlantic or Delta.
