Whether it’s coffee or airplane seats, consistency matters. You never want that bad cup, or dreadful flying experience. Unfortunately, American Airlines has one of the most inconsistent business class setups in the world, offering everything from the seats pictured in Home Alone (the original) to industry leading, wide flat beds. They’ve just announced a major upgrade…

American Airlines will add its name to a distinguished list of carriers offering arguably the best business class seat in the business, the “Super Diamond” for B/E Aerospace on all new Airbus A350 and yet to be delivered Boeing 787’s. The seat, pictured above on Qatar Airways 787 Dreamliner is a very welcome major “upgrade” in an increasingly competitive market (yay).

To avoid confusion, YES, every picture in this post is of the same B/E Super Diamond Seat, just on different airlines…

As evidenced above in its recent Virgin Australia debut, the seat offers direct aisle access and increased privacy with excellent touches to accommodate both individual travelers and those traveling in pairs. Those traveling together will be able to lower the center privacy screen while facing in towards each other, and those who wish for ultimate privacy will face directly out the window in their privacy infused flat bed.

It’s not all pleasure however, the B/E Super Diamond is renowned for fusing work and pleasure, offering the best desk space in business class, with enough room for a laptop and a glass of wine. All work and no play makes for a dull flight…

Kudos to American Airlines for raising the bar (even though they don’t have one on board) in the business class game. As a passenger, increasingly ideal seats only enhance the customer experience. That’s something we can all celebrate, especially at some of the recent pricing! Expect the seat in 2017…
