I would never walk up to a child's sketch book and make fun of their design. With British Airways I would have a slightly easier time. It could be brilliant, it could be dreadful but it will certainly be new and perhaps even unique. British Airways has developed a special new First Class configuration for their shiny new 787-9 Dreamliner's and though we've not seen any actual pictures, the product will be flying sooner than you'd think.

Starting in late October you can experience this new seat on routes to Toronto and Austin serviced by the Dreamliner as a warm up for it's touted London to Delhi debut. If you're interested in flying it using miles or cash I highly suggest creating some dummy bookings to see when the Dreamliner will come on board by clicking the flight numbers you are seeking and seeing if it's a "787". Operating just two rows and eight seats total the First Class is theoretically based on feedback from frequent fliers with highlights focused on additional eye level locker and storage space, an ottoman for additional belongings and most importantly a 23'' display screen designed to operate without interruption from taxi to...gate. Frankly, without actual pictures or scale from a passenger I am having a very tough time deciding whether this new British Airways First Class seat is a knock off or a revolutionary spacious oasis combining functionality, comfort and seclusion. In such a competitive market where other airlines are creating apartments in the sky, let's hope this one is special.

You have the info, you know when and where it's launching and you've seen a rough rendering by the London based design firm Forpeople. As with any new product, curiosity takes over and I am now wondering whether this is worth a go. I am intrigued by the focus group style improvements but wonder whether functional space has replaced personal space or just.... space, it's both I like. Only time will tell. As a matter of note every business class product featured yesterday in the "World Best Business Class" piece was four across, same as this First Class. Whatever it is, i'm easy, I love any elevation to my usual travel and this looks nifty. Is it going to be better or worse than the current offering? I'm very curious...
