Much like all renowned cities in Europe, there's an incredible sense of place and history to be found in London. For a hotel however, that can create a bit of an identity crisis. History is wonderful, but too tired and old a decor and you deter an entire group, too new and you miss that sense of place that travelers seek. The Marriott St. Pancras Renaissance manages to eloquently tip toe its way managing both, marrying incredible architecture, history and culture with upscale contemporary rooms and amenities.
The Property + Location...

From the grand entrance to the lobby there's absolutely no mistaking your surroundings in this one of a kind Gothic Revival, completely gutted and renovated to exacting standards from hard times in days of old. The hotel is centrally located near hotspots like Regents Park, Marylebone and Camden, with arguably the best connectivity in the city, directly next door to the Eurostar and adjoining Kings Cross station for tube and UK rail access. The open air lobby (pictured directly above) is an instantly appealing space.
The Room (Junior Chambers Suite)...

After hearing a rumor that certain Junior Suites offered direct views of the St. Pancras Station platform, we simply had to enquire. After a flawless check in, and tour of the "Chambers Club", lounge facility, which all suites (chambers) guests have access to, we were shown to our suite indeed directly overlooking the station. We found high ceilings, thoughtful space, a glorious bed and an excitingly "British" authentic feel.

Talk about a bed with a view. Sure, there were ample curtains to completely black out the station, but during daylight hours, the natural light through the stations roof made for a beautifully diffused setting in our room. If you're a people watcher, it's hard to beat working from bed.

You've seen the history, now the modern bit. Travelers are increasingly demanding, with needs for audio visual satisfaction, charging stations, international plugs, hard lines, wifi and virtually anything with a plug. Fortunately, these updated suites offer enough connectivity for a traveling dignitary.
The Facilities + Club Lounge...

One extremely unique and exciting feature of the "chambers" offerings is a direct stairway from suites into club lounge. This classic staircase spiraled its way directly up to our floor, allowing us to pop down for breakfast, canapés, snacks, gin and tonic, wine, beer, whatever our pleasure, all day, all free. The exclusive Chambers Club is a wonderful space to blur the lines of business and pleasure, with ample work space to accompany the top notch service and offerings. Since we're all pleasure, we used the space to play cards.

Before we go, it's essential to mention the restaurant connected to the hotel, The Gilbert Scott. Though any guest can adequately stuff their face and drink themselves into blissful sleep in the Club Lounge, Marcus Wareing's "Gilbert Scott" compliments the hotel, providing a dining room which is hard to compare to anywhere else on earth. The food is fantastic, the service is impeccable, the wine is beautifully sourced and though we don't have a picture, we certainly recommend it. Reservations definitely recommended.
