Pay day is always a great day, but airline delay pay day is a celebration. As reported earlier this week, TripIt, one of the best apps for keeping your travels organized just launched an exciting update, chock full of useful new features for life on the go. Here are a few of our favorites and how to maximize them during your journey…

Trip It Or Trip It Pro

Trip It is totally free, and great for the casual traveler. But Trip It Pro is tailored to the frequent traveler, with all sorts of bells and whistles to earn the $39 a year it costs. Basically, if you are on the go regularly, you’ll want to move to TripItPro, if you’re not, keep it simple- and free.

Nearby Places

TripIt is designed to be your travel guru. Which gate to go to, what time boarding starts, delay info, where to get a coffee and now, more of everything. The app has expanded it’s “nearby places” to allow iPad users to join mobile users in searching for things like the nearest ATM and other points of interest.

Leave Now

Though it may feel a bit worrying to some, TripItPro users can now use the “Go Now” feature, which alerts users when it’s time to head for the airport. We’ve experimented with it and are usually already on the way, but for those who like to cut it fine, or are forgetful, it’s a nice new perk. It’ll also pump relevant terminal and gate info en route.

Delay Compensation

The app updates are fantastic, but there’s one well above the rest. The app now automatically lets you know if your reservation is eligible for delay compensation, as per EU/UK and other area rules. Did you know that regardless of the price of your ticket, flights to or from Europe can be eligible for $650 in cash compensation, in addition to still getting you where you need to go? This is a game changer in making passengers aware and a truly awesome TripIt update, available to all users.
