Chase offers a few really great credit cards in the United States, including the Chase Freedom, Chase Sapphire Preferred, British Airways Visa Signature and the Ritz Carlton Rewards. Freedom is one of the few cards in the world which can earn you 5% cash back on certain purchases, while also offering a sign up incentive. Using the Freedom card in tandem with the Sapphire Preferred is a superb combination yielding major points and miles.
If you have just the Freedom card, you are stuck to cash back, which although wonderful, caps a value to your points. If you have the Freedom and the Sapphire Preferred, your points earned on Freedom can be transferred to airline miles via Ultimate Rewards from your Sapphire Preferred. Being that the Freedom charges no annual fee and offers either 10,000 or 20,000 bonus points for signing up depending on season, it’s a no brainer to add to the arsenal.
This summer it’s 5x points at the pump using the Freedom card. If you used any other card you would make at best 2-3x points. Signing up for the Freedom will net you at least 10,000 points to start. Of course if you already have the Freedom, but don’t have the Sapphire Preferred needed to transfer your points, that’s another 50,000 points coming your way. Filling up the tank this summer will earn 150 points on every tank fill up (based on $30 fill up), likely bringing in thousands of miles over the summer. If that’s not nice enough, dining out will earn 5x points as well! I’m buying! When you’ve accumulated a nice stash, you can transfer your hard earned Freedom points into Ultimate Rewards, enabling you a further transfer to great airline partners including United, British Airways, Korean, and more. Being that you can get a ticket from NY to Florida for only 15,000 miles on US or American using British Airways miles regardless of what it would cost using cash, you could earn yourself a free ticket to vacation without spending an excess dollar, just from filling up your car.
